Gracious May Mama Janes™: Comfortable Women’s Shoes that are Made in USA!!

First up, I’m going to give you a little bit of a back story on the Gracious May Mama Janes! I designed the Gracious May Mama Janes in the midst of my struggle with Plantar Fasciitis heel pain. I know, the name sounds scary; but, simply put, Plantar Fasciitis is basically an inflammation of the ligaments that run through the legs and feet. It can be brought on by age, occupation, sports, running, intense exercise, etc. For me, it felt like I was being jabbed in the heel by a rock as I walked (yes, ouch!). In my case, Plantar Fasciitis was brought on by my occupation (on my feet all day here at Gracious May HQ) and a hobby sport I’ve taken up recently. The types of shoes I wore either eased or intensified this heel pain. I found myself having to be really careful to choose shoes that would relieve this pain!

I needed a pair of shoes for Plantar Fasciitis, and they had to be cute (at least that’s what I required!). Until I designed the Gracious May Mama Jane, the only women’s shoes I found that would relive foot pain were clunky orthopedic Mary Janes, or hiking boots (I know, cringe). Keep in mind this was last January/February, so with spring around the corner I knew I’d need a pair of cute leather flats. The cute shoes I normally wore did not have the support or shock absorption necessary to reduce my heel pain. When designing the Mama Jane I wanted them to be a leather flat that was streamlined, sleek, classy, and professional. I knew I’d be using them for work shoes and probably dress shoes too. I wanted them to be leather flats that would work well with pants dresses and skirts. When designing theses shoes I was basically trying to combine all the comfort of an orthopedic shoe into a sleek and classy pair of flats. Talk about a tall order!

I created the first successful Mama Jane prototype in March 2019; right here at the Gracious May Studio in the Dallas, Texas, area. The Mama Jane was, and is, everything I needed in a women’s shoe. After designing the shoe itself I wanted to make sure the inside matched the outside. I set out to make sure the insole had what it takes to make these women shoes comfortable for ALL DAY WEAR. I experimented with several different types of insoles. Some were too thin, some were too thick, some were not breathable enough, and so on. FINALLY, I found what I believe is the very best insole EVER (true story!!). It is breathable and keeps your feet feeling cool within the shoes. If you notice in the video, I show you how the heel of the insole is twice as thick as the rest of the sole (again, the perfect solution to my heel pain) and there is an extra layer of gel cushion at the heel and ball of the foot. The extra gel cushion creates just the right amount of relief for those two major pressure points on the foot. The insoles really contribute to making these such great ladies shoes for Plantar Fasciitis, or really any foot pain!

I have to credit the Lord for leading me to just the right solution for every aspect of these shoes! Not only are the insoles the best and most comfortable, they are also MADE IN USA!! Each pair of Gracious May Mama Janes has this amazing insole built into them, making them comfortable work shoes for women. We have also made these insoles available for purchase by themselves. You know, just in case you want to add them to all the shoes in your closet (ahem, I may or may not have done this!).

Just to further praise the Lord for providing the inspiration and ability to create the Mama Jane, I have to tell you that for the last 7 years we have been trying to create the perfect pair of Ladies shoes here at Gracious May. Attempts prior the to creating the Mama Jane last March had really failed (honest moment!). It is as if the Lord was just arranging the perfect timing and situations to allow me to create these shoes. I am so grateful to have a pair of Ladies shoes that I have designed, tested, and stand behind 100%. These shoes have honestly made my life better.
